FUSA Architect Engineer:
We are looking for a Functional Safety Architect to support the development of safety-relevant automotive systems in accordance with ISO 26262.
The role is focused on system-level Functional Safety, including the definition and technical ownership of technical safety concepts, system safety requirements, safety architectures and safety analyses.
The Functional Safety Architect is responsible for verifying that system-level safety requirements are correctly allocated, implemented, verified and validated by the relevant mechanical, hardware, software and supplier domains.
Key Responsibilities
- Define, maintain and technically own the Technical Safety Concept.
- Derive technical safety requirements from Functional Safety Requirements.
- Derive system architectures, functions, interfaces and operating modes from a Functional Safety perspective.
- Allocate safety requirements to mechanical, hardware, software and supplier domains.
- Ensure consistency and traceability between hazards, Safety Goals, safety concepts, requirements, architecture and verification evidence.
- Review the technical adequacy of safety requirements and safety analyses
- Verify that allocated safety requirements have been correctly implemented, verified and validated.
- Provide technical evidence and inputs for the Safety Case.
- Support Functional Safety specialists and engineering teams in the execution of system-level safety activities.
- Coordinate with system, mechanical, hardware, software, testing, quality, suppliers and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical feedback to the Functional Safety Manager and Functional Safety process owner.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Automotive, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or a related field.
- At least 4 years of experience in automotive systems, Functional Safety or safety-relevant product development.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 and its application at system level.
- Practical experience with safety-analysis methods such as HARA, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA and DFA.
- Strong understanding of automotive systems engineering and the V-cycle.
- Knowledge of mechanical, hardware and/or software design concepts.
- Experience working with complex systems involving multiple engineering domains and external suppliers.
- Fluent English, written and spoken.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience with automotive powertrain, vehicle control or electrified systems.
- Knowledge of Automotive SPICE or comparable development processes.
- Experience with requirements-management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Jama or Codebeamer.
- Experience with safety-analysis tools such as Ansys Medini Analyze, Isograph or equivalent.
- Experience with system architecture and modelling tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to take technical ownership and make independent decisions.
- Ability to assess and challenge incomplete or technically weak safety solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and suppliers.
- Structured and results-oriented approach.
Place of work: Sint-Truiden, Belgium (Onsite preferred — Remote possible)
Salary: Between €60,000 and €65,000, depending on experience.
