Position Overview
AZA Battery is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to support the industrialization and scale-up of our innovative battery technology.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing manufacturing processes, supporting equipment selection and commissioning, improving production performance, and defining the roadmap that will enable AZA Battery to transition from pilot production to industrial manufacturing.
Working closely with Engineering, R&D, Quality and external suppliers, the Manufacturing Engineer will contribute directly to building an efficient, scalable and world-class manufacturing operation.
The position is based at our engineering and manufacturing facility in Tournai, Belgium.
Main Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for:
- Supporting technical discussions with equipment suppliers to define manufacturing requirements and production solutions.
- Preparing Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and other manufacturing risk assessment documentation to improve process robustness and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Working closely with the CTO, Head of Engineering and equipment suppliers to identify manufacturing improvements and optimization strategies.
- Ensuring optimal equipment performance for component and cell manufacturing processes.
- Leading process development and industrialization activities to transform laboratory processes into stable and scalable manufacturing operations.
- Monitoring daily production performance through KPIs, identifying challenges, root causes and improvement opportunities.
- Developing production scale-up plans and manufacturing roadmaps to increase production capacity while reducing manufacturing costs and improving product quality.
- Collaborating closely with R&D and Quality teams by sharing production results, process feedback and technical challenges.
- Supporting the industrialization of products at cell, module and container levels through the development of 3D models and 2D technical drawings.
- Supporting technical discussions with suppliers during equipment design, commissioning and optimization phases.
- Supporting the development of Product Bills of Materials (BOM) and manufacturing cost breakdown analyses.
- Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering on project progress, manufacturing performance and industrialization activities.

- Develop scalable manufacturing processes capable of supporting future production growth.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
- Contribute to equipment qualification, commissioning and optimization.
- Work collaboratively across Engineering, R&D, Quality and Production teams to accelerate product commercialization.
Required Skills & CompetenciesTechnical Skills
- Strong technical expertise in manufacturing environments with small- to medium-scale production.
- Experience establishing manufacturing procedures, operational standards and production frameworks for new manufacturing facilities.
- Excellent understanding of manufacturing technologies involving powders, composite materials and industrial assembly processes.
- Knowledge of:
- Industrial robots
- Vision inspection systems
- Cutting technologies
- Laser processing
- Gluing and dispensing systems
- Good knowledge of CAD software for product and manufacturing design.
- Experience preparing PFMEA, process documentation and manufacturing workflows.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies and production KPI monitoring is considered an advantage.
- Experience in battery manufacturing, energy storage systems or advanced manufacturing technologies is considered a strong plus.

Education & ExperienceEducation
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering or industrialization within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting production ramp-up, process validation and equipment commissioning is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in battery manufacturing, chemical processing, advanced materials or automated production lines is considered a significant advantage.
Languages
- French: Native proficiency.
- English: Minimum B2 level.
