About the role
We are looking for a NoSQL Platform Engineer to own the reliability, scalability, security, and day‑to‑day operations of our enterprise NoSQL database platforms across DEV, TEST, UAT, and PROD.
The role is strongly focused on Azure-native services , in particular Azure Cosmos DB , with additional exposure to MongoDB and DocumentDB. You will combine hands-on operational support with platform engineering, automation, and continuous improvement in a regulated enterprise environment.
You will work closely with application teams, cloud engineers, security, and architects to ensure distributed NoSQL platforms remain stable, recoverable, scalable, and cost-efficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Platform Reliability & Operations
Own and operate enterprise NoSQL platforms, including provisioning, upgrades, monitoring, and incident management. Perform root-cause analysis and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation (7–10 days/month).
- Azure Cosmos DB & Performance Optimisation
Design and operate highly available, resilient Azure Cosmos DB environments. Optimise performance, scalability, and cost through partitioning strategy, RU/s management, indexing, multi-region setups, and capacity planning. Advise application teams on schema and data-access best practices.
- High Availability, Backup & Recovery
Design and maintain HA and DR solutions. Define, automate, and regularly test backup, restore, and recovery procedures.
- Automation & Platform Engineering
Automate provisioning, configuration, monitoring, backup, and reporting using Infrastructure as Code and scripting. Contribute to platform standardisation and cloud adoption initiatives.
- Security & Governance
Implement secure-by-default designs including RBAC, encryption, auditing, monitoring, and compliance controls. Support vulnerability remediation and operational governance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years administering NoSQL databases in production environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Cosmos DB (partitioning, RU/s, consistency models, multi-region deployments)
- Solid operational experience with MongoDB (replica sets, sharding, upgrades, backup/recovery)
- Understanding of HA/DR, incident management, and operational support models
- Experience with automation and scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar)
- Experience working in Azure cloud environments and with Infrastructure as Code
- Working knowledge of security, networking, and access control principles
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
Nice to Have
- Exposure to DocumentDB or other NoSQL platforms
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, or cloud migration projects
- Azure certifications (e.g. AZ‑900)
Please note that this is a permanent position, and we do not offer freelance/contract arrangement for the role
