The Human Genetics Centre of the Institute of Pathology and Genetics is looking for a Clinical Geneticist on a permanent contract, with a strong interest in the prenatal field.
The Human Genetics Center at IPG is one of the eight recognized Human Genetics Centers in Belgium. It currently includes 12 clinical geneticists, 5 external consultants (paediatric immunologist, neuropediatrician, neurologist and oncologists), a paramedical team (two psychologists and three social nurses), and a team of 40 scientific experts including five bioinformaticians.
The center is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies such as NGS (Illumina NovaSeq X Plus, NovaSeq 6000, two NextSeq 2000, MiniSeq i100; long-read sequencers from Oxford Nanopore Technologies; two Thermo Fisher Genexus, etc.), cytogenomics (Optical Genome Mapping, conventional cytogenetics, FISH, etc.), qPCR, digital PCR and many others.
Clinical geneticists perform consultations at IPG and in numerous hospitals in Wallonia and Brussels. The Genetics Centre is a key player in genetics in Belgium, with 10,000 consultations per year, 21,000 NIPT tests, 7,000 NGS panels and tens of thousands of other molecular and genomic analyses. IPG offers a dynamic environment with ongoing medical developments, an accredited scientific research institute and numerous institutional projects.
Your medical activities
Prenatal genetics activities include an on-call organization from Monday to Friday, shared among the physicians in the team, covering result validation and communication, management of the direct phone line and emails. Weekly urgent consultation slots are also scheduled.
A multidisciplinary team meeting is organized weekly at IPG. Participation in antenatal diagnostic meetings within IPG partner teams is strongly encouraged and shared among team physicians.
Regular psychological support is provided to assist the prenatal genetics team.
A postnatal genetics activity is also required in parallel, with themes and allocation to be defined according to departmental needs and the candidate’s interests.
Your profile
You are a physician, specialized in clinical genetics, and you hold a Master in Genetics issued by an European University. Training of minimum 4 years full time in Clinical Genetics is mandatory to ensure recognition by the Belgian Board of Genetics.
You demonstrate strong medical, scientific and interpersonal skills enabling effective integration into a large multidisciplinary team.
You hold a category B driving licence.
