Under supervision of the Welder, Lead, the Welder assists in basic welding, cutting, and fabrication work in support of U.S. Army DPW operations under the LOGCAP V / V2X Public Works Program. Works under supervision to prepare materials, perform tack welds, and complete minor repairs using standard processes. Sets up equipment, maintains tools, and follows all safety, PPE, and fire-prevention requirements.

Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.

Welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.

May locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch, may perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.

Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

High school diploma or equivalent

Basic knowledge of welding equipment and materials

Ability to follow drawings and verbal instructions

Familiarity with shop safety and PPE use

Valid driver’s license

Certifications:
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Card(required within 90 days of hire)

First Aid / CPR (required within 90 days of hire)

Introductory Welding Training Certificate (or equivalent, required)

Experience:
-
Minimum of two to three (2-3) years of experience in various types of welding and the use of welding tools or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Must be a certified welder.

Skills:

Must be able to pass & maintain AWS Welding Code Certifications as required.

Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Working Conditions:
-
Must be capable of working in a tropical weather condition with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months).

Physical Requirements:

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
