Post-doctoral researcher to investigate
The influence of human activities on marine food webs and benthic biogeochemistry (18 months, f/m/x)
We seek a candidate with a background in marine biogeochemistry, biology, ecology or related fields.
The selected candidate will work in the group of Prof. Ulrike Braeckman.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a thesis-based doctorate (obtained max. 6 years ago. This term of 6 years is determined by the date written on the above-mentioned required diploma), preferably of Doctor of Science: Biology or Doctor of Science: Marine Sciences or a subject considered relevant by the selection committee.
- You are highly motivated to conduct research within an international and interdisciplinary team of researchers, and thus build a professional network and academic career;
- You will perform fundamental research within the domain of marine (food web) ecology and biogeochemistry;
- You have a strong interest and experience in sediment biogeochemical modelling or food web modelling;
- You are prepared to contribute to the application of research proposals in the field of marine food webs;
- You are prepared to participate in sampling campaigns at sea with lengths of a few days to a week;
- Strong communication skills in English are essential, including the ability to present to both academic and non-academic audiences and to write scientific manuscripts.
- You can present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated.
- You will support education activities at Ghent University by supervising bachelor and master thesis projects, and by assisting in practical and theoretical biology and ecology classes;

- We offer you a contract of definite duration for 18 months.
- Your contract will start on 1/11/2026 at the earliest.
