YOUR TASKS
- You conduct scientific research on the control of Chlamydia psittaci and avian Escherichia coli infections in poultry. Attention is also given to preventing the transmission of C. psittaci infections from poultry to humans. The research concerns the development of an mRNA vaccine against these infections in chickens, as well as the engineering of an antimicrobial protein that is specifically delivered to the pathogens using antibodies directed against these microorganisms.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a Master’s degree in Bioengineering Sciences: Cell and Gene Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Veterinary Sciences, Health Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Biomedical Sciences.
- You also obtained a doctoral degree (PhD) in one of the above-mentioned Master disciplines.
- You have knowledge of:
- Microbiology (bacterial culture, bacterial growth curves)
- Molecular biotechnology (PCR, production and purification of recombinant proteins in prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression systems, genome analysis)
- Human and animal cell cultures
- Immunology (ELISA, PBMC collection, flow cytometry)
- Immunofluorescence staining of cell cultures (conventional immunofluorescence techniques and confocal laser scanning microscopy, Fiji, Image-J)
- Experience with real-time PCR is highly recommended
- Experience with mRNA vaccines and LNPs is highly recommended.
- A category B driving license is considered an asset.
- A FELASA B or C certificate (Laboratory Animals Science diploma) is considered an asset.
- You take initiative.
- You think proactively.
- You have no problem occasionally taking on tasks outside regular working hours or during weekends when related to the project.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract for a period of 6 months, with the possibility to prolong the contract afterwards.
- Your contract will start on 1/09/2026 at the earliest.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
