As a TCU Calibration Engineer, you will work on advanced powertrain systems, focusing on Transmission Control Units (TCU) for electrified dual clutch transmissions and related architectures. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal drivability, efficiency, and reliability of the system across a wide range of driving and operating conditions.
You will be involved in the full calibration lifecycle: from defining test plans and executing tests on various setups, to analyzing data, refining parameters, and supporting functional safety and diagnostics activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute assigned calibration work packages using dedicated tools and test equipment, following established processes and quality standards.
- Fine-tune control parameters and validate control strategies to achieve targeted performance, efficiency, and drivability of the TCU/eDCT system.
- Define, prepare, and carry out test plans on:
- Transmission test benches
- Chassis dynamometers
- Vehicles (road and track testing)
- Perform objective and subjective drivability assessments, supported by data acquisition and measurement systems.
- Analyze measurement data, identify issues and improvement opportunities, and propose calibration updates.
- Manage and maintain calibration datasets for the software modules under your responsibility, ensuring traceability and version control.
- Contribute to diagnostics and fault management calibration (DTC logic, OBD/UDS communication, fault detection and reaction strategies).
- Support functional safety activities in line with ISO 26262 (safety goals, safety mechanisms, validation of safety-related functions).
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (controls, software, testing, systems engineering) to resolve technical roadblocks.
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders (customers, service providers, colleagues at different sites) to share findings and align on technical solutions.
- Prepare clear, structured reports and presentations to communicate test results, calibration status, and recommendations.
Profile & Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, Automotive Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum 4–8 years of experience as a powertrain calibration and/or controls engineer.
- Proven experience in at least some of the following areas:
- Powertrain and transmission calibration
- Diagnostics and fault management
- System monitoring and DTC logic
- OBD/UDS (CAN) communication
- Functional safety-related activities
- Solid understanding of automotive powertrain systems and control concepts.
- Good knowledge of block diagrams and model-based development (Matlab/Simulink).
- Hands-on experience with calibration and measurement tools, ideally:
- Familiarity with functional safety concepts according to ISO 26262 (safety goals, safety mechanisms, validation) – mandatory.
- Knowledge of programming languages is an advantage:
- C / C++
- Matlab script (M-script)
- Python
- Experience with AVL CRETA for calibration data management is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a goal-oriented and perseverant attitude.
- Independent, systematic, and structured working style.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (written and spoken); Dutch is a nice-to-have.
- Comfortable working in an international, multi-site environment and interacting with different stakeholders.
Other Requirements
- Valid EU category B driver’s license – mandatory (required for vehicle testing).
- Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe and to work mainly in Sint-Truiden
