Job description
Wanna give your training a strong societal turn ?
We are currently looking for Master's students to join our Crisis Preparedness and Response Unit.
You will join the unit responsible for crisis preparedness and health crisis management at Sciensano. This unit supports health authorities before, during, and after public health emergencies that may pose risks to public health, such as outbreaks of infectious diseases, foodborne intoxications, influenza epidemics (including avian influenza), natural disasters, or biological threats.
Crisis management relies on multidisciplinary collaboration across Sciensano's scientific directorates and support services. The team's activities cover emergency preparedness, crisis response, and post-crisis evaluation and continuous improvement through After-Action Reviews.

You like what you are reading ? Amazing ! Then, your tasks will involve :
- Assisting in the organisation of an in-person workshop dedicated to expert elicitation on avian influenza risks within the Be PreparedAHEADD project (preparing presentations, logistics, creating documentation, and supporting the team).
- Contributing to the organisation of crisis simulation exercises (Simulation Exercises – SimEx) and After-Action Reviews (AARs).
- Participating in the updating and development of Sciensano's website content.
- Conducting literature reviews and contributing to the drafting of scientific and strategic documents (e.g. crisis management plans, West Nile Fever Plan).
- Participating in strategic and operational meetings related to crisis management.
- Supporting the organisation of Risk Assessments and contributing to the activities of the Risk Assessment Group (RAG).
Profile
Your profile :
- Degree: Master's student in Life Sciences (Biology, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field).
- Strong interest in public health, infectious diseases, and crisis management.
- Basic knowledge of life sciences.
- Soft skills:
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Curious, motivated, and eager to learn.
- Dynamic, detail-oriented, and responsible.
- Hard skills:
- Good command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong writing and summarising skills.
- Previous experience in literature research or scientific writing is considered an asset.
Language proficiency :
- Good command of French, Dutch, and English, both spoken and written.
