Junior researcher - AI-Supported EMC Investigation & Simulation Environmen
(ref. BAP-2026-303)
Laatst aangepast: 19/05/26
At the M-Group at KU Leuven Bruges Campus, we are advancing the future of intelligent mechatronic systems and electromagnetic risk management. Through our EMC laboratory within Flanders Make @ KU Leuven – MPro (FMEC), we combine cutting-edge electromagnetic engineering with artificial intelligence, advanced modelling and industrial innovation.
For the newly launched REMEDIS project - A Risk-Based Approach to EMC-Focused Design of Complex Mechatronic Systems - we are looking for an ambitious (junior) researcher to develop next-generation AI-supported EMC investigation and simulation methodologies.
Responsibilities
Complex electronic systems increasingly suffer from difficult-to-diagnose electromagnetic interactions. Current EMC investigations often rely heavily on expert intuition, costly iterative testing and simulation workflows that are insufficiently linked to actual risk criticality. REMEDIS addresses this challenge by developing AI-supported decision-support methodologies and risk-driven simulation strategies for EMC engineering.
As a junior researcher, you will play a key scientific role in developing the AI-Supported EMC Investigation & Simulation Environment within the REMEDIS project. Your responsibilities include:
-
Develop AI-supported methods for EMC risk prioritization, investigation and decision support.
-
Research risk-driven simulation strategies for complex electromagnetic interference problems.
-
Build and validate prototype AI-assisted EMC investigation workflows together with industrial partners.
-
Publish research results in leading international journals and conferences.
Profile
We are looking for a candidate with the following background:
-
A master degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, or a closely related field.
-
Research experience or interest in artificial intelligence / machine learning, electromagnetic compatibility, and/or simulation-driven engineering.
-
Experience with Python and AI/ML frameworks is highly desirable..
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Excellent communication and scientific writing skills in English.
-
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Offer
We offer:
-
A fully funded 2-year researcher position (extension towards a PhD possible depending on project evolution and funding).
-
The opportunity to contribute to pioneering interdisciplinary research at the intersection of EMC, AI and systems engineering.
-
Access to advanced EMC laboratories, simulation infrastructure and industrial demonstrator platforms.
-
A dynamic and internationally connected research environment with strong industrial involvement.
-
Opportunities to collaborate with leading companies in semiconductor, medical and mechatronic systems engineering.
-
Participation in international conferences, workshops and collaborative European research initiatives.
-
A competitive salary and a comprehensive package of university benefits.
About REMEDIS:
REMEDIS develops innovative methodologies to support risk-based EMC design and assurance for complex mechatronic systems. The project combines assurance case methodologies, AI-supported investigation workflows and risk-driven simulation strategies to reduce late-stage EMC failures and improve engineering efficiency across multiple industrial sectors.
