Performs maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment at water-treatment facilities under the LOGCAP V / V2X Public Works Program. Services pumps, motors, valves, and chemical-feed systems. Performs alignments, seal replacements, and equipment calibrations. Ensures mechanical reliability and assists with system upgrades while following all safety, environmental, and DPW compliance procedures.

Performs preventative maintenance and repairs that are on schedule and to industry standards to water plant equipment including, but not limited to pumps, valves, chemical injection pumps, analytical equipment, compressors, and other plant equipment.

Calibrates and troubleshoots electronic analytical devices such as turbidimeters, differential pressure transmitters, flow meters, and chlorine meters.

Troubleshoots equipment such as a hypochlorite generators, filters, and reverse osmosis systems.

Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the potable/non-potable water and also wastewater equipment maintenance activities on the program

Responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance program in the water treatment plant.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.

High school diploma or equivalent
-
Vocational training in mechanical, industrial maintenance, or utilities systems or documented OJT
-
Basic knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, and mechanical systems

Ability to read mechanical manuals and equipment diagrams
-
Valid driver’s license
-
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in wet, chemical, and confined environments

Pump repair training

Welding or fabrication familiarity

Certificates:

OSHA 10 Construction or General Industry (required within 90 days of hire)

Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) training (required within 90 days of hire)

Confined Space awareness training (required within 90 days of hire)

Chemical safety training (required within 90 days of hire)
-
First Aid / CPR (required within 90 days of hire)

Water Treatment Operator certification (T1/T2 equivalent, Required)
-
Industrial maintenance certification (Or equivalent, Required)

Utilities mechanical certification (Or equivalent, Required)

Skills:
-
Must be able to read, write and speak fluently.
-
Able and willing to perform other duties as needed, as skills and program allow.

Experience with municipal Water Treatment, as well as some knowledge of Water Distribution systems required.

Previous experience in a contingency environment is a plus.

Thorough knowledge of electronic analytical devices such as turbidimeters, differential pressure transmitters, flow meters, and chlorine meters.

Ability to read, interpret and follow manuals, exploded view diagrams, engineering sketches, charts, and work orders

Ability to perform mathematical calculations required on the job
-
Ability to pass and maintain the respirator fit test with a tight-fitting respirator in order to work with chlorine gas.

Ability to use logic in troubleshooting problems.

Ability to successfully plan maintenance projects from start to completion and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions:
-
Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical, environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months).
-
Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions. No effective protection from the weather.
-
The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
