Scientific Project Manager

About us
ILSI Europe develops, communicates & disseminates science-based guidance to tackle food, public health and sustainability challenges by facilitating collaboration and consensus building between academic, industry and public service experts. Our fit-for-purpose deliverables include peer-reviewed publications, reports, guidance documents, webinars, symposia and more. The ILSI Europe team made up of 11 motivated individuals with 8 different nationalities manages an ecosystem of about 40 industry members, 14 task forces and many expert groups.
Location
ILSI Europe is located in Brussels; the role is expected to be fulfilled partly in the Brussels office and partly from home (address in Belgium).
Mission
The Scientific Project Manager (SPM) manages task forces and related scientific projects in the field of food safety, nutrition and/or sustainability. He/she supports experts in their scientific mission and to achieve the agreed project objectives. The SPM ensures that the project outputs meet the quality expectations. He/she reports to the Scientific Programme Director (SPD), and he/she supports the establishment of scientific relationships with key stakeholders. Furthermore, he/she organises the dissemination of scientific output at conferences, webinars, etc. in collaboration with the Communications Manager (CM) and Event Officer (EO). The SPM also supports members recruitment efforts.
Reporting & supervisory relationships
- Reports to the Executive director
- Directly manages some of ILSI Europe’s Nutrition task forces and related expert groups.
Responsibilities
- Task force (TF) / expert group (EG) management in accordance with ILSI Europe’s rules, principles and policies
- Ensures that projects reach their objectives (qualitative and timely scientific output, adequate communication and dissemination)
- Manages projects in a professional and timely manner
- Generates relevant documents like minutes, agendas and information documents
- Initiates and follows the manuscript review process by journals and ensures open access publication of scientific outputs
- Organises meetings, calls and dissemination events in accordance with the planned TF budget
- Plans, manages and executes the TF budget
- Ensures that members and experts are aware of important and relevant information (for instance change in the scientific programme of the TF/EG, experts’ involvement in projects, finances, decisions by the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) or Board of Directors (BOD), etc.)
- Stays up to date with relevant scientific developments related to the task force work, including that of international organisations and reports back to relevant internal and external stakeholders
- Presents the outcome and impact of the task force activities in meetings and conferences,
- Establishes contact with renowned scientists and coordinating their work.
European projects funded by the European Commission:
- Contributes to the development of research proposals
- If granted, ensures the implementation of the project tasks according to the agreed timing, budget and quality expectationsParticipates in the project reporting
Experience required
- MSc in life sciences/STEM (nutrition, biology, sustainability) or higher degree
- Development of narrative and/or systematic reviews and publication in peer reviewed journals
- Stakeholder management
- Budget management
- Previous experience in scientific project management in an international environment will be considered a plus
- Previous research experiences on microbiome, pre- or probiotics, immunology or the ageing process will be considered a plus
- Previous working experience in industry and/or regulatory domain will be considered a plus

- European citizenship or a valid EU working permit
