What does a strategic it buyer do at the Atlas Copco Group in Wilrijk? As a strategic it buyer you will join our wider sourcing environment and become part of a larger team known for its open communication, informal atmosphere, and strong team spirit, offering plenty of room to learn and take ownership. Working closely with both our sourcing colleagues and the IT department, you support a mix of operational and tactical purchasing activities on a varied scope including software, saas, licenses, software development, IT consulting, services, and hardware. You support IT sourcing projects from the initial business need all the way to supplier follow-up, ensuring a good balance between cost, quality, service, risk, and compliance. Your daily flow as a strategic it buyer involves translating stakeholder requirements into clear specifications, launching quotation requests, tenders, or rfqs, and analyzing supplier offers to prepare fact-based sourcing recommendations. You negotiate prices, commercial conditions, and contract terms, while supporting the review of key contract elements such as service levels, liabilities, data protection and gdpr requirements, intellectual property considerations, exit conditions, indexation, and renewal terms.
Additionally, you manage supplier follow-up by organizing review meetings, monitor license-related costs to improve market competitiveness, and support internal stakeholders with day-to-day procurement questions. Over time, you will take on broader ownership within the role and, if aligned with your interests, expand into selected indirect sourcing commodities as well. You will report to the commodity manager it and work via a hybrid model at our facility in Wilrijk.

Master degree in business, economics, industrial sciences, or a similar field, or equivalent experience
Motivation to learn and build knowledge in software, hardware, services, and licenses, with deep existing IT expertise not required
Experience in procurement, a commercial role, project support, or an IT-related environment
Comfort working with multiple stakeholders, changing priorities, and a mix of operational detail and tactical follow-up
Analytical and commercial mindset to compare supplier offers, understand cost drivers, and support fact-based sourcing recommendations
Familiarity with enterprise IT systems such as ERP, PLM, CRM, IT service management tools, SaaS platforms, or cloud-based solutions
Professional communication skills in English, with knowledge of Dutch considered an asset
Proactive, organized, and service-minded team player who builds trust across teams, takes ownership, and thrives in a structured yet varied environment
