Workflow Management Architect, Brussels (near-site) – MAIA
Position: Workflow Management Architect.
Location: Near-site (Brussels).
Rate: 480€/day.
Language: Services will be provided in English. Consultants must have at least a C1 level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Minimum post-secundary education required: At least 5 years of studies attested by a diploma.
Minimum professional experience required: a minimum of 3 years postsecondary professional experience.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and evolve the existing workflow engines Activiti and Camunda, ensuring operational stability and continuity.
- Implement functional enhancements, technical migrations, performance improvements and corrective changes related to workflow management components.
- Ensure backward compatibility with the legacy workflow management system Compass Green.
- Develop, integrate and test new features based on provided specifications.
- Perform root cause analysis of production incidents and deliver code-level fixes.
- Address technical debt through code refactoring, library upgrades and SQL optimization.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests to safeguard platform stability.
- Prepare deployment packages and support integration into production environments.
- Participate in PI Planning, Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives.
- Refine technical backlog items and contribute to technical implementation planning.
- Present completed functional and technical changes during sprint and PI demonstrations.
- Participate in technical alignment meetings, architecture synchronizations and stakeholder update.
Specific knowledge, skills and expertise:
Frontend development
- Proficiency in HTML5, Javascript/TypeScript, CSS3 and SASS.
- Proficiency in Angular, including modern concepts like Signals.
- Good knowledge of building complex, modular client-side applications using modern. frameworks, Web Components, micro frontends and state management patterns.
- Experience in Web security, authentication and authorization protocols (OpenID Connect, JWT).
- Experience with responsive and adaptive design.
- Experience with leveraging Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) like AWS CloudFront to optimize asset delivery and improve application performance.
- Understanding key design principles.
- Understanding API integration patterns (consuming REST APIs, error handling, caching strategies).
- Experience with dynamic UI component integration patterns (loading, event communication).
Backend development
- Proficiency in back-end languages (Java) and experience with frameworks (Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, Axon).
- Experience with legacy JEE application servers and technology standards and implementations (WebLogic 14, JAXRS, JAXWS, JAXB, EJB, JMS).
- Experience in designing, building, automating, and securing RESTful APIs and web services, including OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
- Experience with API management technologies (Consul, API Gateways, CAPI Gateway)
- Knowledge of cloud services (e.g., AWS) and experience with deploying and managing applications in a cloud environment.
- Understanding authentication and authorization protocols and standards (e.g., OpenID Connect, JWT, Client/Server Certificate).
- Experience with leveraging AI agent technologies during development but also integrated with applications (MCP, Skills, AmazonQ/Kiro, Spec Driven development, context engineering).
- Experience with workflow engine integration (Activiti, Camunda).
Database & Persistence
- Proficiency in working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, H2DB), including writing complex SQL queries and understanding database design.
- Experience with NoSQL document stores (ElasticSearch, Redis) and understanding of consistency/performance trade-offs.
Architecture
- Experience with cloud-native event-driven micro-service architecture principles and design patterns like CQRS, Saga’s.
- Experience with messaging solutions based on JMS and Kafka.
- Strong understanding of the web development cycle and programming techniques and tolos.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for developing, deploying, monitoring and troubleshooting applications.
DevOps & Infrastructure
- Experience with development and DevSecOps tooling, including version control (Git), Git workflows (GitFlow), and Understanding of CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
- Experience with collaboration tools: issue tracking (Jira) and documentation (Confluence).
- Experience with Observability and Performance Monitoring tools (Dynatrace, Elastic APM, Grafana, Prometeus, Zipkin, LogStash, OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry).
Testing & Quality Engineering
- Experience with testing practices (unit and integration testing).
- Experience with Code Review practices.
- Experience with quality tools (SonarQube, Fortify).
- Knowledge of front-end testing frameworks and tools for unit and integration testing.
- Experience in using client-side monitoring tools like Dynatrace Real User Monitoring.
- Experience with performance optimization of web applications.
